Nowhere is technology more fluid and evolving than within the digital realm. The Center’s digital media programs are designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of the contexts, processes and techniques of animation, video, interactivity and motion graphics. Through interaction with a wide range of media, students develop comprehensive technical skills while being challenged to research theories and generate ideas to achieve sophisticated digital solutions.

Rich and innovative projects are created within a diverse range of traditional and emerging environments. Our youth will discover that the need to adapt is crucial – what is hot today may be outdated and replaced tomorrow. They have access to the latest and most relevant equipment – computers and software, HD cameras, and industry standard editing software.

The techniques our participants learn help them become proficient in digital media and allow them to express themselves  through telling cinematic stories, making characters move, exploring virtual space, developing online strategies, animating graphics, incorporating audio and effects, designing interfaces, databases, games or touch-screen applications, proficiency in digital media.  Learning these skills will help position these youth for tomorrow’s digital media industries.

Those youth attending workshops at The Center will be afforded the opportunity to explore their creativity while acquiring skills essential to succeed in the 21st Century.  Open workshops are available for students to do their homework and utilize The Center’s resources for research and class assignments.

For further information on youth programs, please contact Stephanie Jelley, Director of Programing at stephanie@mwsohkfc.org or call 973.762.4062.

Rick Hauser, one of three partners at GAS Gallery & Studio, has invited those students interested in photography to further explore their love of imagery and the art of photography by generously offering to display The Center’s youth photography on Thursday, September 23rd from 7-9 pm.  Students who participated in the July 24th “Long Shot”, a 24 hour local shoot, as well as those who have participated in the summer pilot program at The Center will have their works displayed for auction to raise funds to expand programming at The Center.

To further our youths’ experience we are selecting 6 students, random selection “drawing straws”, to shoot the Jeremy Moss’ artist reception Thursday September 9th from 7-10 pm.  The exhibit “Elements” is a display of exquisite pattern formations of nature shaped by a variety of  elements seen through Moss’ lens with an appreciation and understanding of nature.  A celebration of our planet.

Moss, UK native and Maplewood resident, will have his works on display at GAS September 3 through October 1st.  For further information on this exhibit, please visit www.itisagas.com

Students of the Maplewood & South Orange School District grades 7-12 are encouraged to submit their photography and should you have an interest in shooting the exhibit, “Elements”, please contact Stephanie Jelley, Director of Programs & Business Development, at stephanie@mwsohkfc.org.
