    The Foundations Center of Maplewood and South Orange, (the “Center”), seeks to empower the youth our our community and enhance their sense of self and belonging through dynamic programming. The Center’s unique approach encourages creative self-expression through the illustration of the practical importance of academic skills such as literacy and arithmetic and the related application to digital media productions.

    The Center applies an “inquiry-based learning” approach whereby the Center’s Scholars will participate in the planning, development and evaluation of their media and community civic engagement projects under the guidance of the Center’s facilitators.

    Documentary Filmmaking

    This workshop will allow young and aspiring filmmakers to talk about the issues they care about the most and then make a documentary. The documentary will be filmed over the course of two days, and an edited version of the film will be screened locally for everyone to see.

    In a series of workshops Tuesday July 5th through August 9th, this program covers under-discussed topic areas, including advocacy filmmaking, producing the NGO or political documentary, and documentary shorts for the web. There are even workshops on funding and distributing your documentary work worldwide. more »

    The Foundations Center of SOMa follows the school district's calendar and will be closed Monday, January 16th in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

    Community Service

  • Please join HKCF and spend your time this holiday season with the families that Interfaith Hopsitality Network have staying at Morrow Church. There are 3 families with 10 children 4 teens 6 children under age 8. You can stop by from 7pm - 9pm weeknights and 9am - 6pm Weekends. Read a story, help with homework, make a snack or just have a chat with the children. They would love to have you. Please contact HKCF for more information: amyjo@hkcommunityfund.org
